Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineering Co-Op student will primarily support the research and development of precision inertial guidance instruments for existing customers.  Additional tasks will include supporting business proposals for inertial guidance instruments.  Various disciplines being utilized will include primarily precision mechanical engineering and design, as well as some mechanical analysis and thermal development.  Technologies being developed will include complex and high precision aerospace assemblies: mechanical, electro-mechanical, magnetic, materials testing.  Significant effort will be placed on 3D CAD modeling, designing assembly fixtures, performing thermal analysis and design.  Specific tasks will include, but are not limited to: 1) Mechanical instrument design utilizing Solid Works or Pro Engineer and ANSYS FEA software.  2) Writing of technical documents, assembly instructions, and process procedures.  3) Collaboration with Draper's prototype machine shop on manufacturability of instrument and fixture components.  4) Collaboration with Draper’s Technicians on assembly builds and experiments of instrument and fixture components. 5) Utilize Draper's rapid prototype lab to generate accurate Stereo Lithography models of complex assemblies.

Qualifications

Mechanical Engineering student with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and hands-on experience required.  Experience with mechanical design using Pro Engineer or Solid Works strongly preferred.  Intuitive understanding of the physical universe is mandatory.  Additional desirable experience: Design, precision mechanics, magnetics, thermal control, electro-mechanical, Opto-mechanical, fluids, machine shop, technical assembly, Excel, LabVIEW, MATLAB, ACAD.
